Like past competitions, all competitors will receive the same model kit and have 4 hours to build and customize their model. We will be using the HG Wing Gundam Zero this time. At the end of the 4 hours, judges will evaluate everyone’s work and award the winners based on the following judging categories:
Technical: Looking at the quality of the build. How clean the cuts are, how even the paint is, use of extensive modifications, etc..
Aesthetic: Looking at the artistry of the build and the how well the builder executed on their artistic vision.
Illustrative: A blend of the first two categories. Artistic vision technically executed.
Full Rules:
Each competitor will be provided with a working space of 1.5 X 3 feet. Anything being used in the build must fit in that space at the start of the competition. No spray, aerosol, or air-brush painting is allowed. The model kit provided must be assembled at the competition and should be the focal point of your finished display. Any diorama pieces or external kit accessories can be preassembled before the competition.
Starting at 1:00 PM, builders will have 4 full hours to work. No modifications can be made to a builder’s kit after the 4 hours have elapsed. Once the 4 hours are up, builders will then have 5 minutes to stage their display. The staging process allows the builder to position their work and remove anything not part of their final display from their work area. Judges may factor anything remaining in the work space into their judgments.
After the competition is over, competitors own the kit and are free to take it home. However, if they’d like, they can leave their finished work to be displayed at the store until the next competition or whenever they wish to pick it up.
A photographer might be taking pictures of the event and of the model kits. Please let us know ahead of time if you wish not to be photographed.
